Two armed robbers have been sentenced to death by hanging while 7 others were jailed for life for offences including rape, kidnapping, armed robbery, conspiracy, and culpable homicide in Bauchi State.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that it was the judgment of the Bauchi High Court, which found them guilty and sentenced them accordingly.
The court delivered the judgments on Friday, with 51 criminal cases involving 64 defendants adjudicated and concluded during the last quarter of 2025. The offences ranged from armed robbery, kidnapping, conspiracy, culpable homicide, rape, and fraud, among others.
The convictions were secured under relevant provisions of the Penal Code and the Robbery and Firearms (Special Provisions) Act, Cap. R11, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 2004, as well as the Bauchi State Penal Code, 2022.
Muhammad Maina and Yakubu Adamu were the two armed robbers sentenced to death. Evidence presented by the prosecution proved their involvement in violent robbery incidents across the state, warranting the maximum penalty under the law.
Shehu Isa, Adamu Adamu (aka Nalele), Mohammed Bello, Kabiru Ahmed, Muhammad Jibrin (aka Al-Amin), Usman Bello (Maigamo), and Manu Umaru (aka Alhaji Manu) were sentenced to life imprisonment without the option of fine for offences including rape, conspiracy, armed robbery, culpable homicide, and kidnapping.
Eleven individuals were also convicted for fraud-related offences and sentenced to three months’ imprisonment without the option of fine. They included Abubakar Shehu, Yusuf Aliyu Alhassan, Miracle Chidi, Dominic Lazarus, James Myaulompwa, Lawus Zakka, Sadiq Dosumo, Jude Titus, Joseph Olamide Adesunmila, Koche Samuel, and Favour Odinaka.
Other convicts received various prison terms ranging from three months to ten years, with some given the option of fines ranging between N10,000 and N500,000, depending on the gravity of the offence.
The judgments were delivered after the court found the defendants guilty beyond reasonable doubt. The court expressed concern over the persistent threat of kidnapping and violent crimes in Bauchi State, stressing that the sentences were intended to serve as a deterrent to criminal activities.
