Man, 27, Arrested For Using Fake 1000 Naira Notes To Buy Choice Goods

A 27-year old man, Godwin Amen, has been arrested and charged in Lagos State for allegedly using fake 1000 Naira notes to buy choice goods. 
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the suspect, Amen, was caught on 19th February, 2026, at Lamde Street, Alimosho area of Lagos, where he went to the shop belonging to a woman, Ogundare Comfort, to buy goods.
He was however, unlucky as the owner of the shop discovered following her previous experiences and raised alarm.
The matter was reported to the Police at Gowon Estate Division and the suspect and arrested and detained at the station for interrogation over his alleged conduct.
While being interrogated, the Police recovered the fake money as exhibits and consequently charged him before the Ogba Magistrate Court for the alleged offence which attracts several years of imprisonment.
COUNT I:- “That you, Godwin Amen ‘M’ on the 19th day of February, 2025 at about 1600hrs at No. 10 Lamde Street Alimosho Lagos in the Ikeja Magisterial District, did conduct yourself in such manner that can cause the breach of peace by spending counterfeit notes of 1,000 denomination in the shop and premises of One Ogundare Comfort ‘F’ and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 168 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2015.”
COUNT ii:-“That you, Godwin Amen ‘M’ on the same date, time and place in the aforementioned Magisterial District, did unlawfully have in your possession counterfeit Naira currency notes and also spending same in the shop of One Ogundare Comfort ‘F’ at the same address and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 376 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2015.”
However, he pleaded not guilty.
The prosecutor, Supol Josephine Ihkayere, then asked the Court to give a date for hearing since he pleaded not guilty to enable the Police to prove that he actually committed the alleged offence.
The Presiding Magistrate, Mr. L.A. Owolabi, granted him bail with two sureties, who must show evidence of means of livelihood and tax payment while addresses will be verified by the Court.
The matter was adjourned for mention while the defendant was remanded in custody at the correctional center at Kirikiri town, Lagos, pending when he will perfect his bail conditions.
