Man, 53, Docked For Selling Another Man’s Land & Threatening To Eliminate Him

A 53-year old man, Adeniyi Illo, has been arrested and charged in Lagos State for allegedly threatening to kill a land owner, Shonibare Ololade Waheed, after allegedly selling his land.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident happened on 22nd day of January, 2026, at Ipodo Street, Ikeja area of Lagos, where the land is located.
According to the Police, the complainant entrusted the parcel of the land in suspect’s care but he forcibly took over possession, sold it, prevented the owner access and threatened him through a WhatsApp voice note to declare him, one Shonibare Ololade Waheed ‘m’, a thief to cause mob action when went to the market.
The matter was reported to the Police at the Commissioner of Police Tactical Squad at the State Command. The Police moved into action, arrested and detained the suspect at the Command for interrogation over his alleged conduct against the complainant.
After investigation, the Police found him culpable and charged him before the Ogba Magistrate Court for the alleged offence which attracts several years of imprisonment.
The charges read:
COUNT 1. “That you, Adeniyi Illo ‘m’ and others now at large, on the 22nd day of January, 2026, at about 0100hrs, at Ipodo Street, Ikeja Lagos, in the Lagos Magisterial District, did conspire amongst yourselves to commit felony to wit: Threat to life and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.”
COUNT II:”That you, Adeniyi Illo ‘m’ and others at large, on the same date, time and place, in the aforesaid Magisterial District, based on the complainants’ parcel of land in your care and custody at Ipado market, Ikeja, which you forcibly took over possession, sold and prevented the owner access, did threaten him through a whatsapp voice note message to declare him, one Shonibare Ololade Waheed ‘m’, a thief and to cause mob action against him whenever seen on the land, which you sent to the complainant and thereby commited an offence contrary to and punishable under Section 5-1)(a)(b)(c) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.”
COUNT III :”That you, Adeniyi Illo ‘m’ and others at large, on the same date, time and place, in the aforesaid Magisterial District, did conduct yourselves in a manner likely to cause breach of peace by sending threat whatsapp message to provoke the complainant one Shonibare Ololade Waheed ‘m’ and thereby committed an offence Contrary to and Punishable under Section 168(1)(d)(h) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2015.”
However, he pleaded not guilty.
The prosecutor, Supol Josephine Ihkayere, then asked the Court to give a date for hearing since he pleaded not guilty to enable the Police to prove that he actually committed the alleged offence.
The Presiding Magistrate, Mr. L.A. Owolabi, granted him bail with two sureties, who must show evidence of means of livelihood and tax payment while addresses will be verified by the Court.
The matter was adjourned for mention while the defendant was remanded in custody at the correctional center at Kirikiri town, Lagos, pending when he will perfect his bail conditions.
