What Lagos Wants From Incoming Board Members Of Sports Associations – Tandoh

Posted on March 26, 2018

The Executive Chairman of the Lagos State Sports Commission (LSSC), Dr. Kweku Tandoh, has said that the new boards of the State’s sports associations will be peopled by committed administrators.

All the boards of the 36 sports associations except football were recently dissolved by the order of Governor Akinwunmi Ambode to enable the state organise and reposition the activities of all the sports associations in line with the state’s vision of making Lagos the sports hub of Africa.

While expressing the hope that the new boards for all the sports associations will be reconstituted and inaugurated as soon as Governor Ambode gives approval, Dr Tandoh reiterated that the government is looking forward to seeing the associations being run independently of public funds as they will be mandated to source for funds to organize their various programmes.

He noted that the state is looking forward to having board members who would be passionate about the sports  they oversee with a view to secure sponsorship rather than relying totally on government’s funding as it was being practice in the past.

“The exercise of bringing in new boards will soon be completed in the next few weeks and as soon as we have the final approval from His Excellency, Governor Akinwumi Ambode, we will release the list. The priority now is to bring on board members who are committed, those who have passion and proven integrity to draw sponsorship for the sports they oversee,” he said during a recent interview.

“What we are looking forward to this time around is sports associations that will put together basic things for their respective sports without necessarily running to the government all the time. They must be self sustained, independent and proactive.

“So, we are taking our time to ensure that in line with His Excellency’s directive. We want men and women of passion, those that are committed, who will move the Lagos sports forward and also engender the private, public sector participation that we need in the running of sports in the state,” he said.
