The Umuigbo United Assembly Worldwide (UUA Worldwide) has formally announced the passing of its National Women Leader, Her Excellency Princess Nne Nana Onwodi, describing her death as a profound loss to the organisation and the wider Igbo community.
In an official statement issued on Sunday by the National Media and Publicity Secretary, Comrade James Ezema, the Assembly expressed “profound sorrow and a deep sense of collective loss” over the demise of the respected leader and one time presidential aspirant on the platform of the defunct Alliance for a United Nigeria (AUN).
“It is with profound sorrow and a deep sense of collective loss that the Umuigbo United Assembly Worldwide announces the passing of our esteemed National Woman Leader, Her Excellency Princess Nne Nana Onwodi,” the statement read.
The organisation paid glowing tribute to the late Onwodi, highlighting her leadership qualities and commitment to the advancement of the Igbo people both within Nigeria and in the diaspora. According to the statement, she was “a distinguished leader, a committed advocate for unity, and a passionate voice for the advancement of the Igbo people both at home and in the diaspora.”
The Assembly noted that her contributions to its growth and cohesion were “immense and enduring,” particularly in her role as National Woman Leader. It added that she “exemplified dedication, courage, and visionary leadership,” and was instrumental in mobilising women and promoting inclusive participation across the organisation.
Beyond her role within the UUA, the late Onwodi was also recognised for her broader societal impact.
The statement emphasised that “her legacy extends beyond organisational leadership,” noting her “commitment to national development, her advocacy for good governance, and her unwavering belief in the power of collective action to transform society.”
Her death, the Assembly said, came as a shock to its members worldwide. “The news of her passing has come as a great shock to the entire Umuigbo family worldwide. We mourn not only a leader but also a mother, mentor, and unifying figure whose presence will be sorely missed,” the statement added.
The UUA extended condolences to her family and associates, stating: “On behalf of the leadership and entire membership of Umuigbo United Assembly Worldwide, we extend our heartfelt condolences to her immediate family, associates, and all who were touched by her life and service.”
The organisation also offered prayers for the repose of her soul and comfort for her loved ones, saying, “We pray that Almighty God grants her soul eternal rest and gives her loved ones the strength to bear this irreparable loss.”
It further indicated that details regarding her funeral arrangements would be announced at a later date.
