A popular pharmaceutical company known as May & Baker has lost a whopping sum of about N10m of their products to a suspected conman, Kelechi Anyanwu in Lagos.

P.M.EXPRESS reports that the alleged scam took place at the company’s premises located at 3/5 Sapara Street in  Ikeja Lagos.

It was gathered that the company entrusted the products to the suspect, he sold them and converted the money to his personal use. The management later realised that the money for the products they entrusted to Anyanwu was not paid into the company’s account and they confronted him. He said that he actually collected the products, sold them and had spent the whole money.

The matter was reported to the police, he also admitted at the police station and offered to refund the money. Anyanwu then issued some banks cheques to pay certain amounts of money in instalments until he finished the payment.

However, when the company went to the banks he issued their cheques – Diamond and Stanbic banks, there was no money in the accounts. Thus, the police charged Anyanwu before the Ogba Magistrates court for stealing and issuing of dude cheques.

He pleaded not guilty.

The Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. Jadesola Adeyemi-Ajayi granted the defendant bail in the sum of N500,000 with two sureties in like sum.
The prosecutor, Inspector Akeem Raji did not object to his bail but asked the court to consider giving a bail condition that will enable him to come to court to face trial because of the huge amount of money involved.

Anyanwu was remanded in prison custody pending when he will perfect his bail condition.
The matter was adjourned till 30 April, 2018.
