Cultists Go On Rampage!
MICHAEL AKINOLA
The efforts of the Lagos State Police Command in ensuring adequate security of lives and properties notwithstanding, cultists on Thursday went on rampage around the Itire area of Lagos.
The cultists in their numbers brandished guns, cutlasses, axes, daggers and other dangerous weapons, disturbed the residents and disrupted business activities around Omobola, Wurola and adjoining streets.
Not done, they appeared again on Friday and also disturbed the peace in the area. It was not clear whether they were hunting for members of rival groups or were just showing their supremacy.
The residents lamented that all through the period the cultists had a field day, that no single police officer or their patrol van was sighted. They said that it appeared the officers at Itire Division cannot provide adequate security in the area.
The cultists had on 19th February, 2018, unleashed mayhem on the people residing or doing business in the area. They reportedly broke into shops, carted away cash, goods and valuables and equally damaged all the vehicles parked within the area.
One of the residents, Mr. Tunde Adegbola, who spoke to P.M.EXPRESS said that he was on his way out when he saw the cultists in their numbers and had to run back to avoid being attacked. He appealed to Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Edgal Imohimi to come to their aid and weed out the cultists like he had done in other parts of the state.
A business owner in the area, one Mr. Sunday lamented the huge losses they always incurred whenever the cultists stormed the area. He hinted that they broke into shops as their owners ran for safety. Mr. Sunday enjoined the Lagos State Government and the police authorities to look into the matter as the attacks were becoming rampant.
When our correspondent got to the area today, most of the residents stayed indoors while the shop owners locked their shops for fear of another sudden attack by the cultists.
