Posted on June 10, 2026

Professor Yemi Oke, SAN, in his capacity as Baba-Baamofin Egba and Convener of the P-BAT Academics and Professionals Group, on Monday addressed political zoning and the upcoming elections in Ogun State.
In his comment titled “FROM ‘IPERU’ TO ‘IPERU?: THOUGHTLESS ABSURDITY OF A MISGUIDED POLITICAL PERMUTATION”, Prof. Oke made his position known on discussions around which senatorial district should produce the next governor of Ogun State after the current administration.
He stated that “Egba professionals and intellectuals” are monitoring the political process and referenced the current governor’s tenure. He expressed opposition to the governorship “remaining in the same Ogun East Senatorial District” for another term.
Prof. Oke posited that “what will never happen is for any decent EGBA person to consider or work to give it to another Iperu man,” referring to the hometown of the current governor. He also commented on proposals involving Odogbolu, stating his view that it would result in “another 8 years… making a total of 16 years in Iperu”.
He added that he has “no problem with anybody’s aspiration” but described certain zoning proposals as “DEAD on arrival”.
Prof. Oke stated his position that “If they choose a free and fair election, Tinubu and Yayi will win as President and Governor respectively”. He added that “in the unlikely event that they opt for a ‘not-too-fair’ contest, Tinubu and Yayi will still win and defeat them hands-down.
Prof. Oke is popularly as Baba-Baamofin Egba, Otun Ibarapa-Egba, and Convener of IYALOLOMO and the P-BAT Academics and Professionals Group.
Ogun State has three senatorial districts: Ogun Central, Ogun East, and Ogun West. Iperu is located in Ogun East. The current governor of Ogun State is from Iperu. Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola, also known as Yayi, currently represents Ogun West in the Senate.
