The Beatz Awards Expand To New Frontiers After A Decade of Impact

Posted on July 8, 2026

After more than a decade of celebrating the professionals working behind Africa’s biggest music successes, The Beatz Awards is expanding its vision beyond recognition, unveiling a broader platform aimed at talent development, industry collaboration and strengthening the continent’s creative economy.

Organisers on Wednesday announced that the 11th edition of The Beatz Awards will be held on Saturday, 21 November 2026, at the Shell Hall, Muson Centre, Lagos, under the theme “Behind The Beat & Beyond The Beat.”

Now in its eleventh year, the platform has become one of Africa’s leading recognitions for music producers, songwriters, sound engineers, entertainment lawyers, A&R executives, record labels, media practitioners and other professionals whose work shapes the music industry behind the spotlight.

However, organisers say the next phase of The Beatz Awards reflects the changing realities of Africa’s creative industry, where recognition alone is no longer enough.

The 2026 season will introduce new initiatives focused on professional development, entrepreneurship, innovation and industry engagement, creating opportunities for emerging and established creative professionals alike.

Among the programmes is Beatz To Banger, a capacity-building initiative designed to provide practical training, mentorship and industry exposure for young music producers and creative entrepreneurs.

The platform will also continue publishing The Beatz Awards Magazine while expanding its calendar to include industry conversations, fireside chats and knowledge-sharing sessions bringing together creators, executives, investors and policymakers.

Founder and Executive Producer of The Beatz Awards, Elijah John, said the expansion reflects the platform’s commitment to supporting the long-term growth of Africa’s music ecosystem.

“For eleven years, we have celebrated the people behind the music.

Today, our responsibility goes beyond recognition. We want to help build careers, encourage innovation, support entrepreneurship and create platforms that contribute meaningfully to the future of Africa’s creative industry. That is the vision behind this new chapter of The Beatz Awards.”

The organisers also disclosed that the 11th edition has continued to attract support from institutions across the public and private sectors, reflecting growing confidence in the role of the creative economy as a driver of innovation, enterprise and youth employment.

Among organisations supporting this year’s edition are the Bank of Industry (BOI), FirstBank, Lagos Internal Revenue Service (LIRS), Propel Properties, Digital Encode, Doc2Data, Folham, Brawn Onion and Ernnytales LLC.

Preparations are also underway for the introduction of new award categories that will reflect the evolving landscape of music production, creative entrepreneurship, technology and the wider creative economy. Details of the categories and the official Call for Entries are expected to be announced in the coming weeks.

As African music continues to expand its global influence, The Beatz Awards says its focus remains on ensuring that the professionals building the industry’s success receive not only recognition, but also opportunities to learn, connect and thrive.
