Dominican University, Ibadan, has paid glowing tribute to its Pro-Chancellor, former Anambra State Governor Mr. Peter Obi, CON, as he marks his 65th birthday, describing him as a symbol of integrity, service, and transformative leadership.

In a goodwill message released on Sunday, the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Jacinta A. Opara, said Obi’s life and public service exemplify the values the university seeks to instill in its students: discipline, excellence, and commitment to the common good.

She noted that Obi’s passion for education has remained consistent throughout his career. “Your words, actions, and investments in human capital have continued to inspire hope and shape the aspirations of countless young Nigerians,” Prof. Opara stated. “You have shown that education remains the most powerful catalyst for national development.”

The university acknowledged Obi’s advocacy for quality learning, youth empowerment, and prudent resource management during his time in public office and beyond. According to the institution, these principles align with Dominican University’s mission of producing graduates who are not only academically sound but also morally upright and globally competitive.

“As a university founded a decade ago on the 800-year educational heritage of the Order of Preachers, we are deeply grateful for your visionary leadership and generous support as Pro-Chancellor,” the statement read. “Under your guidance, the university has continued to grow in stature, academic depth, and commitment to service.”

The university also highlighted Obi’s broader contributions to national discourse on governance, accountability, and poverty reduction, noting that his message of hope resonates strongly with the younger generation.

Joining millions of Nigerians at home and in the diaspora, Dominican University offered prayers for Obi’s continued good health, wisdom, and strength.

The congratulatory message, signed by Prof. Opara and made available to newsmen, reaffirmed the university’s pride in associating with a leader whose dedication to education, integrity, and service continues to inspire future generations.
