Man, 32, Arraigned Over Alleged N14.8m Theft At Computer Village

According to the charge sheet, the alleged incident occurred sometime in 2025 at about 11:30 AM at Computer Village, Ikeja, within the Lagos Magisterial District. The case was filed by the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State.

The prosecution filed two counts against the defendant and others said to be at large. The first count alleged that the defendant and others conspired to commit a felony, to wit: stealing. This offence is said to be contrary to and punishable under Section 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

The second count alleged that on the same date, time, and place, the defendant and others stole the sum of Fourteen Million, Eight Hundred Thousand Naira (N14,800,000.00), the property of Ananwa Chukwuebuka. This offence is alleged to be contrary to Section 280(1)(a)(b) and punishable under Section 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

The case was handled by operatives from CP Special Squad 2. The Investigating Police Officer listed on the charge was Inspector Adonduwa Friday. The matter was presented in court by the prosecutor, SP Josephine Ikhayere.

During arraignment before Magistrate Mr. L.A. Owolabi, the charges were read to the defendant. He pleaded not guilty.

The court granted the defendant bail with two sureties. However, the magistrate ordered that he be remanded in custody at the correctional center at Kirikiri Town, Lagos, pending when he will perfect his bail conditions.

Exhibits in the matter were also listed and kept in court custody. The Magistrate adjourned the matter for mention to enable the prosecution to present further evidence and for the court to confirm bail perfection.

Computer Village at Ikeja is known as Nigeria’s biggest market for phones, laptops, accessories, and tech repairs. With thousands of daily transactions, it attracts traders and buyers from across the country. Because of the volume of cash and gadgets that move through the market daily, security agencies have increased patrols and surveillance in the area in recent years. The Lagos State Police Command has repeatedly warned traders and customers to be cautious with large cash deals and to use bank transfers where possible. Market leaders have also set up task forces and CCTV monitoring in some sections to reduce theft, fraud, and other crimes.

Legal experts say conspiracy and stealing under Lagos State law carry significant penalties if proven. Section 287 provides for jail terms depending on the value of property stolen and the circumstances of the case. The court is expected to receive further updates on the case and on efforts to apprehend other suspects said to be at large. Authorities have urged members of the public with information that can assist the investigation to contact the nearest Police station.
