The Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of the Force Criminal Investigation Department Annex, Lagos, AIG Simeon U. Akpanudom, has received a delegation from the Consulate General of the People’s Republic of China in Lagos.
The visit aimed to strengthen collaboration between the Nigeria Police Force and the Chinese Consulate in areas of security, culture, economic development, and people-to-people relations.
The delegation was led by the Consul General, Ms. Yan Yuqing, and included Second Secretary Alexander Liu Kai and Third Secretary Ricky.
Speaking during the visit, Ms. Yan Yuqing commended the longstanding bilateral relationship between Nigeria and China. She praised the Nigeria Police Force, and the FCID Annex in particular, for its role in maintaining law and order and ensuring the safety of citizens, residents, and foreign nationals, including Chinese businesses operating in Nigeria.
She disclosed plans by the Consulate to organise a cultural exchange programme and a capacity development seminar focused on trade with China. The programme, she said, would provide opportunities for Police officers to participate in knowledge sharing and professional engagement. Similar initiatives have been held in other African countries.
The Consul General also invited the AIG and FCID Annex leadership to the 77th anniversary celebrations of the founding of the People’s Republic of China. She added that the Consulate is open to hosting members of the FCID leadership to experience aspects of Chinese culture and cuisine.
As part of welfare support for Police personnel, the Consulate also offered a medical outreach programme focused on eye health, which will include eye screening and basic eye-care services for FCID officers.
Ms. Yan Yuqing reaffirmed China’s commitment to the China-Africa partnership and to initiatives that support social and economic development, including job creation for women and young people. She expressed optimism about the future of Nigeria-China relations and stressed the importance of continued cooperation between security agencies in both countries.
She further pledged the Chinese community’s commitment to working with the Nigeria Police through timely information sharing to support crime prevention, intelligence gathering, and investigations.
In his response, AIG Akpanudom welcomed the delegation and thanked the Consul General for the visit. He acknowledged the strong ties between Nigeria and China and assured the delegation of the Police Force’s commitment to providing a secure environment for Chinese nationals and businesses in Nigeria.
The AIG welcomed the proposed cultural exchange, capacity development seminar, and medical outreach, noting that such initiatives would support knowledge sharing, professional development, and institutional cooperation.
He also appreciated the invitation to the Chinese National Day celebrations and expressed support for programmes that would promote the learning of the Chinese language among Police personnel to improve communication and mutual understanding.
He urged the Consulate and the Chinese community to continue providing timely information to assist Police investigations, adding that effective collaboration is key to preventing crime and ensuring public safety.
The visit concluded with both parties reaffirming their commitment to deeper cooperation in security, cultural exchange, information sharing, capacity building, and staff welfare.
The event featured the presentation of a commemorative plaque to symbolise the ongoing friendship and cooperation between Nigeria and the People’s Republic of China.
