Oni Describes Tunji-Ojo As Game Changer At Interior Ministry

Posted on September 8, 2026

Public Affairs Analyst, Olalekan Oni, has commended the Minister of Interior, Hon. Bunmi Tunji-Ojo, describing him as a “game changer” who has redefined the operations of the Ministry of Interior.

Speaking on a socio-political radio programme on Monday, September 8, 2026, Mr. Oni highlighted the Minister’s reforms across passport issuance and renewal, airport infrastructure, border security, and other paramilitary agencies under the ministry.

Mr. Oni noted that under BTO, the Ministry of Interior has moved beyond its previous public perception of mainly announcing public holidays.

He said the ministry has now become a performance-driven institution delivering visible results to Nigerians both at home and in the diaspora.

“The Minister has transformed the Ministry of Interior. It is no longer just associated with public holiday announcements. Today, we are seeing reforms in passport processing, improved airport infrastructure, stronger border security, and better welfare for personnel of agencies under the ministry,” Mr. Oni said.

He specifically applauded the digitization of passport application and renewal processes, which he said has reduced delays and human interface, and the ongoing upgrades to airport facilities and border management systems.

The Public Affairs Analyst also urged Nigerians to demand accountability from government appointees.

He stressed that public office holders are custodians of public resources and must be held responsible for their performance.

“We must move beyond clapping for appointees and begin to ask the right questions. Government officials are entrusted with our commonwealth. They must be held accountable for results,” he added.

Mr. Oni said the strides being recorded in the Ministry of Interior should serve as a template for other ministries to emulate in terms of transparency, innovation and service delivery.
