Buruj Sports Academy Defender Anionovo Prosperity Samuel Scores For Nigeria As Future Eagles Finish 76th At FIFA U-15 World Cup & Festival 2026

Buruj Sports Academy defender, Prosperity Samuel Anionovo, has announced himself on the international stage after scoring Nigeria’s only goal in their 1-2 defeat to Panama in the final classification match of the 2026 FIFA U-15 World Cup & Festival in Baku, Azerbaijan.
The young centre-back rose to the occasion in the 38th minute, showing great composure and attacking instinct to find the back of the net, a rare and memorable moment for a defender in a tournament dominated by forwards.

Though the Future Eagles fell narrowly to the Central Americans, Anionovo’s goal was the highlight of Nigeria’s closing fixture and capped a remarkable learning experience for the player in national colours.
Nigeria’s Future Eagles had a rollercoaster campaign at this year’s Festival, which featured over 80 countries from across the world in a blend of competitive football, cultural exchange and youth development.

The team played 10 matches in total, recording 2 wins, 6 draws and 2 defeats, scoring 23 goals and conceding 20, to finish 76th overall in the final rankings.

For Buruj Sports Academy, based in Ikorodu, Lagos, Anionovo’s goal is more than just a statistic. It is a validation of the academy’s model of grassroots-to-global development.
Anionovo, who joined Buruj as a raw but promising defender, has grown through the academy’s structured training, exposure tours and emphasis on education and discipline. His selection to represent Nigeria and his goal on the world stage is seen as a proud milestone.
“From the dusty pitches of Ikorodu to scoring for Nigeria in Azerbaijan, Prosperity’s journey embodies what Buruj stands for,” an official of the academy said. “We are committed to giving young Nigerian talents a platform to be seen globally, and this is just the beginning for him.”
The academy, founded by Dr. Salaudeen Waheed Buruj, has over the years produced players who have gone on to represent Nigeria at various youth levels and secured trials with clubs in Europe and the Middle East.
As the Future Eagles return home, the experience gained in Baku – playing against diverse football styles from Asia, Africa, Europe and South America – is expected to be invaluable for their development.
For Prosperity Samuel Anionovo, the goal against Panama will remain a career-defining moment and a springboard for greater achievements.
Congratulations, Prosperity!
