Man Sent To Prison After Returning Stolen Items

A 30-year-old man, Douglas Ankpa, has been arrested after he reportedly returned a company stolen items in his possession.
After he was arraigned in court, he was remanded in Kirikiri Prisons, Lagos Nigeria.
Ankpa was arraigned before a Magistrates’ court sitting in Isolo where he was charged with conspiracy and stealing under the Criminal Code.
According to the police, the suspect stole 40 pieces of PVC pipe valued at over N600,00 property of Just Partner Nigeria Limited located at Pako, Aswani in Isolo.
In the course of police interrogation, the Benue-state born Ankpa denied that he stole the items as claimed by the police and the company.
He said the company was angry with him for securing another contract work given to him by one of their workers.
He said their worker contacted and gave him another contract for laying of the pipe, similar to what he was doing for the company at a better offer.
He said when the company knew what happened, they claimed their PVC pipes were missing and traced it to the person who gave him the contract and PVC to do the job.
He said they contacted him and asked him to return the PVC which he wanted to use to do the work.
He said when he returned it, they apprehended and handed him over to the police at Aswani division without even contacting their worker who supplied the PVC to execute the work.
When Ankpa was charged with conspiracy and stealing, he pleaded not guilty.
The presiding Magistrate, Mrs A. K. Shonubi granted him bail in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties in like sum.
He was remanded in prison pending when he will perfect his bail.
The matter was adjourned till 12 December, 2016.
