Thieves Battle Gov Ambode On Flyover Railings

The amiable Governor of  Lagos State, Mr. Akinwumi Ambode and his cabinet had been very busy constructing flyovers across the state to ease traffic in the megacity, but thieves have equally very  busy vandalizing the aluminum railings mounted on those bridges and selling them as scraps to buyers.

P.M.EXPRESS reports that this was the outcome of police investigations which revealed the activities of thieves on those bridges in the night as they carted away the railings.

It was gathered that some of the aluminum railings used on the flyovers and pedestrians bridges had been damaged, vandalized and stolen by robbers across the state. However, the efforts of the police surveillance team have started yielding results after the syndicate went to Airport Road and vandalized the rails. After their operation, as they were escaping they were rounded up by the police.

The suspects, Sunday Udoh, 23, Abubaka Isiaka, 28, Mustapha Hasimu, 35, Mawa Usman, 23, were apprehended.

The police alleged that the suspects and others at large on the 25th of May, 2018, at the flyover bridge along Toyota bus stop by Airport Road on Oshodi-Apapa expressway, vandalized and damaged Lagos State Government property. The market value of the railingss was not disclosed by the police but said it ran into millions of Naira.

Unknown to the suspects, the operatives from the surveillance team were on duty. The suspects had removed the railings and were escaping before they were arrested by the police.

The suspects were charged before Ogba Magistrates court for conspiracy, vandalism and stealing.
They pleaded not guilty.
The Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. M.O. Tanimola granted them bail in the sum of N200,000 with two sureties in like sum.
They were remanded in prison custody pending when they will perfect their bail.
The matter was adjourned till 16th July, 2018.
