The residents of Ebute Ikorodu, a suburb of Lagos were shocked to discover that one of their co-tenants was indeed an armed robber following the attack on a female neighbour.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident happened at 32 Ajose Street in Ebute Ikorodu, where they resided.
The suspect, Mr. Hammed Olayinka, popularly known as DJ Shy, reportedly arranged with an armed robbery gang and robbed a female co-tenant identified as Omotoyosi Bello.
Mrs. Bello reportedly bought an iPhone valued N150,000 and showed it to the neighbours including DJ Shy who congratulated her. Unknown to Bello, DJ Shy was not happy and she did not know he was an armed robber who also desired to have such phone.
Later at night, he informed his gang members and they stormed the house where Mrs. Bello also resided. They attacked, stole the phone from her and escaped.
However, the whole thing was exposed after the matter was reported to the police. The police moved into action and arrested three suspects who were arranged by DJ Shy for the operation.
The suspects included Solomon Jacob, 29, Ifeanyi Chialue, 32 and Akinola Michael, 24. The police also recovered an English revolver pistol, ammunition and the iPhone belonging to Bello.
During interrogations, the suspects revealed that DJ Shy was a member of their robbery gang and he was the person that informed the gang before they went for the operation.
This was confirmed by the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Edgal Imohimi, who paraded the suspects at the State Police Command, Lagos.
He said, “When I asked the question, do you know your neighbour? It usually sounded mere words but it was a question we will continue to ask ourselves. He said that if the victim, Omotoyosi Bello, had known that Seun Hammed Olayinka, a.k.a. DJ Shy, was a member of an armed robbery gang, she would have informed the police and will not be a victim.
The police boss said that on 9th August, 2018, the police received information that armed robbers attacked Bello, robbed her of iPhone valued at N150,000 and escaped. He said that through painstaking investigation conducted by the Command’s raider team, three of the suspects who took part in the operation were arrested while the mastermind, Mr. Olayinka, who was the victim’s neighbour escaped and was now at large.
CP Edgal said that the matter was still under investigation and the suspects will be charged to court after the police had concluded the investigations.
