There has been agitation in the Civil Defence Office in Shagamu, Ogun State, as two of their officers AS Julius Olusanya and Senior Inspector Adeniyi Elijah assigned to watch over the pipelines were arrested by  the Sector Commander, IGP Special Taskforce on Pipeline Vandalisation, DSP Adetarami Adegbehin and his men, for vandalizing and stealing of PMS at the Mechanic  Village, Toll Gate pipeline.

According to the information gathered from a reliable source at the village, the Civil Defence officers with their accomplice were accosted around 6:30pm in the evening of Tuesday 21st October, 2018, along the highway.
The eye witness who spoke on the condition of anonymity said that what baffled everyone around was the fact that the suspects were among the officers assigned to guard the pipelines.

He said, “This is not the first time they are doing it, they’ve been into it for some time. They carry fire arms and you might not know what they are up to”.

P.M.EXPRESS also gathered from an eye witness that the Sector Commander was just on a follow up mission based on information at his disposal about illegal vandals at the Mechanic Village which made him decide to mobilise his men for patrol. The operation was successful as they arrested unexpected suspects while others are still at large.
According to our source, another suspect arrested was said to be a civilian who immediately after his arrest confessed to the crime and said he was only asked to come and assist the officers.

When the CSO of NNPC, Mr. Akinola, was contacted about the issue he said, “I am not aware but the only one I saw was the man that died during the process of vandalisation last week. He later referred us to the Area Manager who we could not get in touch with.
P.M.EXPRESS tried getting in touch with the Sector Commander of IGP Special Taskforce and Pipeline Vandalisation, DSP Adetarami Adegbehin, who was once the second in command to to the former officer in charge O/C SARS, now IRT National Coordinator, DCP Abba Kiyari, but he was not picking his call.

On getting to the Civil Defence Office in Shagamu, the Deputy Divisional Officer said he was not aware of the issue and directed us to Abeokuta.
A reliable source also authenticated the information by telling P.M.EXPRESS crew that some of the Civil Defence senior officers have been lobbying to get their men off the hook of the Sector Commander.
Four vehicles filled with about hundred jerry cans loaded with PMS were said to have been recovered. We could not get in touch with the Civil Defence Public Relations Officer as his phone was not reachable as at production time.
