Ahead of preparations towards the 2019 Governorship elections in Abia, several groups have started endorsing Dr Uchechukwu Sampson Ogah for Governor. These groups comprise professional and civil society groups who are primarily citizens of Abia State, like Abia Lawyers for Uche Ogah, Abia Students Union and One on One Group. They all visited Dr Ogah to pledge their unflinching support towards his election as the next Governor of the State.  Within the past weeks Dr. Uchechukwu Sampson Ogah has also hosted representatives of indigenous actors under the umbrella of Igbowood, with members numbering over 150,000.

Speaking at the occasion, the leader of the One on One Group, Ambassador Dave, lamented the failure of governance in Abia.  He was moved to tears at the deplorable conditions of roads, schools and other public amenities in Abia under the government of Okezie Ikpeazu.  He also pointed out the issues of nonpayment of salaries and pensions by the government and charged  Dr. Uchechukwu Sampson Ogah and his Campaign Team as liberators of Abia to ensure they turn the state around for good . They adopted him as their sole candidate for Governor, and promised to ensure his victory across the 17 LGAs and 184 wards in Abia. They further pledged to ensure the electoral victory of APC across all wards and LGAs in the State. The group as a Pan Abia civil society group with membership spread across the State and beyond promised to effectively mobilize the people to vote and defend their votes for Dr Ogah and the APC.

Speaking in support of Ambassador Dave, Mrs Adaugo Chinyeaka Ezekiel, says “we are prepared to join hands with Dr. Uche Ogah and other groups to ensure a change of government in Abia State and to usher in a progressive government led by Dr. Uche Ogah that will transform the state”

On welcoming the group Dr. Uchechukwu Sampson Ogah, his running mate, Rt. Hon Martin Azubuike and members of the Campaign Council, thanked the group for their support, endorsement and their belief in his agenda to recover and rebuild Abia into a modern economy. Dr. Uchechukwu Sampson Ogah stated that his major need for power is to transform Abia into a 21st Century economy that will make Abia prosperous in all facets of life. He promised to enhance development with a focus on education, health, job creation and infrastructure. He further promised not to disappoint Abians when elected into office in 2019 but to enthrone a master plan for development encapsulated in 3E & 2TT (Energy,  Education,  Economy, Technology and Transformation).

Dr. Uchechukwu Sampson Ogah also had the opportunity to address other groups that visited, including; Abia Professionals For Liberation, Lawyers for Uche Ogah and Abia Students Union. He reiterated his determination to transform Abia State.

While addressing them, Dr Ogah said “I have achieved many things for myself, I can afford almost anything that money can buy but I am determined to write my name in gold by transforming Abia State into an enviable state that will attract global attention. My deputy, Rt. Hon Martin Azubuike and I are going to run the state without depending on federal allocation. We have the magic wand. We see Abia State as having the potential to compete with some prosperous countries that are about our size and population despite not having the kind of advantages we have. My deputy and I believe that within the existing circumstance in Nigeria, Abia State can be transformed into a great economy within the Nigerian state. We don’t buy the many excuses that are being given for our lack of development. If we invest what is currently available strategically in Abia State, with the benefit of my experience in the private sector and that of my running mate, our state will rank tops in Nigeria. We can beat the Lagos and Anambra experiences because we have what it takes, we have learned from their experiences and we have a unique experience to add to that”

The various groups promised to go back to intensify their mobilization and grassroots orientation. They also made a promise to mobilize financial and material support towards Dr Uchechukwu Sampson Ogah’s campaign, because according to the  spokesperson for the Abia Professionals For Liberation, Barr Moses, “it is not about Dr Uchechukwu Sampson Ogah, it is about the future of Abia State. Dr. Uchechukwu Sampson Ogah is only the symbol for this liberation struggle, we are all partners and stakeholders and we have decided to contribute towards it because it is our battle”.

Meanwhile, other groups have booked appointment to meet with Dr. Uchechukwu Sampson Ogah in the coming days, even as many are already putting resources together to hit the road for his campaign.
