Man Arrested For Engaging Girl,7, In Sex Romps For One year

Operatives at the Gender Section of the Lagos State Police Command have arrested a 34-year old, Best Oji, for allegedly engaging a 7-year old girl in sex romps for 12 months.

The incident happened at Kakaremo Street in Shasha area of Lagos where they reside.

It was gathered that Oji started defiling the victim since 2017 by fingering her private and eventually defiled her. However, the assault was exposed this year after the parents of the victim discovered changes in her body; they interrogated her and she revealed what Oji did to her.
The matter was reported to the Shasha Police Division and the suspect was then arrested. He was later transferred to the Gender Section of the State Command for interrogation.
He was found culpable and charged before the Ebute Metta Magistrates Court for the alleged offence.
The court did not take his plea as the prosecutor, Mr. Donny Raphael, informed the court that the victim was a minor and would require DPP advice.
Thus, the Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. B.O Osunsanmi, ordered the defendant to be remanded in prison custody without an option of fine. The court directed the prosecutor to send the file to DPP for advice.
It was learnt that the matter may likely be transferred to the High Court because it was a case of defilement if the DPP finds him culpable and he may spend up to 10 years in prison if he was tried and found guilty of the offence.
