Team Lagos Have Good Spread Of Medals Across Sports-Tandoh

Notwithstanding the standing of Team Lagos on the official medal table, Chairman of Lagos State Sports Commission, Dr. Kweku Tandoh has expressed his satisfaction with the performance of his athletes especially with the spread of medals won across a number of sports.
Official medal table released early on Thursday by the organisers of the festival indicating compilation done 6:32pm on Wednesday showed that Lagos on 5th position is having 9 gold, 15 silver and 34 bronze medals.
PM EXPRESS’ findings however revealed that the number of gold medals won as at the time of filling this reports is far above the official figures.
“I’m impressed with the performance of our athletes so far. They have been able to compete very well and made us proud as a state.
“The good thing about the performance of our athletes is that they have been winning across all sports. We have good spread across sports when you analyse the spread of the medals we have been winning so far. The medals are not coming from a single or few sports, but we medals won cutting across sports than most of the states. As an administrator you must commend this performance.
“These results give us exposure to a good number of sports and it shows that our sports development cut across all level of sports.
“Mind you, the sports festival is still ongoing, I strongly believe that Team Lagos would spring surprises where least expected because we know our worth,” he said,
Speaking on the bid for the 2020 edition of the festival, which has seen some states such as Edo, Delta, Imo, Kaduna and Cross River bidding for it, Tandoh disclosed that Lagos has no plan to bid for the 20th edition of the sports festival.
“There is no plan for us to bid for the sports festival. We hosted the 2012 edition, the Eko 2012 Games and it was adjudged the best ever in the history of the festival. There is need to give other states in the country the opportunity to host the games,” he said.
