The All Africa Challenge Trophy (AACT) has been a major vehicle to drive local and international tourism to Lagos as it has attracted no fewer than 200 lady golfers from 10 African countries such as Senegal, Burkina Faso, Cote d’ Ivoire, Ghana,Togo, Cameroon, Gabon, Gambia, Equatorial Guinea, and Nigeria.
According to the organisers, Lagos State is expected to benefit from hosting the tournament, which was established as a biennial event in Harare at Chapman Golf Club in May 1992 with 12 participating countries.
Some of the gains include but not limited to the fact that the AACT will aid the development of Ladies Golf amongst participating countries across Africa. The championship would further encourage social networking amongst golfers in Africa while building their confidence level for positive representation at the global community. Hosting this event is in-tandem with Governor Akinwunmi Ambode’s vision to make Lagos an all year round sports hub and also bring top class international sports to the state.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the AACT was designed since first edition to be run by the organizing committee of the host country, assisted and overseen by the Regional Trustees; who ensure that the guiding principles are adhered to and that participation in the event continually expands.
The event, which was last organised in Tunisia in 2016, has also being held in several African countries in the past 37 years and Nigeria would not be an exception with individual trophy won by Zimbabwe, South Africa, Kenya, Egypt and Cote d’Ivoire.
