Team Nigeria continued its impressive campaign at the World Athletics U20 Championships in Eugene as Success Oyibu and Miracle Ezechukwu produced outstanding performances in the women’s 200m semifinals.

Oyibu delivered a composed and commanding performance to win her semifinal, clocking 23.13 seconds and securing her place in the women’s 200m final.

The Nigerian held off South Africa’s Rume Burger, who finished second in 23.18 seconds, to advance as a semifinal winner and put herself firmly in contention for a podium finish.

Miracle Ezechukwu also produced another remarkable performance, racing to a new personal best of 22.61 seconds to finish second in her 200m semifinal.

Ezechukwu’s 22.61-second performance represents another major step forward for the youngster, who has continued to impress in Eugene. Her qualification for the final, however, remains pending, with Team Nigeria awaiting the final decision before her place in the championship race is officially confirmed.

The performances further underline the depth of Nigeria’s emerging women’s sprint generation, with Oyibu securing her place in the final and Ezechukwu putting herself in position to join her as Team Nigeria continues its push for more medals at the championships.

Ezechukwu has already played a pivotal role in Nigeria’s campaign in Eugene, producing a stunning anchor leg as the mixed 4x100m relay team clocked a Nigerian U20 record of 41.91 seconds to qualify for the final.

With Jessica Oji already making history by becoming Nigeria’s first athlete to win a global field event title at any level following her gold medal in the women’s shot put, the performances of Oyibu and Ezechukwu provide further encouragement about the quality of the country’s emerging generation.
