The police in Lagos appear to have lost control of their guns with the continued killing of innocent citizens by the officers in the State.

P.M.EXPRESS reports that barley few weeks after a young man was shot dead while watching a Premier League match at a viewing center, another set of people were  again shot at the weekend.

One of the victims, a 20-year old lady, Ada Ifeanyi, died on the spot while the second victim, Emmanuel Akomafuwa, is in critical condition in a hospital in Ajegunle in Olodi Apapa area of Lagos.
The police officer involved in the alleged murder were said to have pumped several bullets in their direction which resulted in the casualties for undisclosed reasons.
However, the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, have promptly responded to the outcry of the residents over the dastardly act by arresting the officers involved.
This was disclosed by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Bala Elkana.
DSP Bala said that the police officers involved in the shooting of Ada Ifeanyi and Emmanuel Akomafuwa have been arrested and detained, as the CP has vowed that the perpetrators must be punished and brought to book.
“The Commissioner of Police Lagos State, CP Zubairu Muazu, has ordered the immediate arrest and detention of Police Officers suspected to be involved in the shooting of Ada Ifeanyi, 20, of No. 4b Amusa Lane off Ojo Road Ajegunle and Emmanuel Akomafuwa, 32, of No. 52 Babatunde Street off Akpiri Street, Olodi Apapa.”

Elkana said that the incident happened on 13th April, 2019 at about 7am. The victims were rushed to the hospital and Ada Ifeanyi was confirmed dead while Emmanuel Akomafuwa is currently on admission receiving treatment from the injury he sustained as a result of the shooting.
He explained that the members of the team suspected to be involved in the shooting were from Trinity Police Station and are currently facing internal disciplinary proceedings at the State Command Headquarters, Ikeja.
Their rifles have been retrieved for forensic analysis by ballistic experts. If found wanting, they will be prosecuted in the conventional Court for Murder.
The Policemen arrested are Inspector Adamu Usman, Sergeant Adeyeye Adeoye, Sergeant Kashim Tijani, Sergeant Lucky Akigbe and Sergeant Paul Adeoye while Inspector Dania Ojo who escaped immediately after the shooting incident has been declared wanted by the State Command.

“The Command will not relent in its efforts in ridding the force of these criminal elements. Those involved in extra judicial killings and abuse of power are promptly identified, isolated, tried through internal disciplinary proceedings, dismissed from service and prosecuted in conventional Courts. Within the last one month, Lagos State Police Command has dismissed four policemen for abuse of power and conducts unbecoming of Police Officers and awarded various degrees of punishments to 41 others. The four dismissed Policemen were charged to Court and remanded in prison custody. Our collective resolve in building a more humane, professional, dedicated, courageous and people oriented Police Force is a task that must be done and together we can make it a reality.
The Commissioner of Police extends the Command’s deepest condolences to the family and friends of Ada Ifeanyi and promised to foot the medical bills of Emmanuel Akomafuwa” he said.
