Posted on May 1, 2019

Senator Solomon Adeola (APC, Lagos West), the Chairman of Senate Committee on Local Content, has restated his commitment to enhancing and improving on the condition of workers genuinely engaged in productive activities in Nigeria as well as ensure that Nigerians are not denied their jobs through expatriate employment.

In a May Day message to celebrate workers and the dignity of labour in human life, Senator Adeola who was the South West representative in the Senate Ad-Hoc Committee on Minimum Wage that approved the passage of the bill for a N30,000 national minimum wage, said that he is focused on human development for productive purposes adding that over the years as a legislator from the State to the Federal level, he has facilitated trainings for thousands of persons that are mostly engaged in productive labour.

“My commitment to the dignity of labour informs my usual inclusion of skills acquisition and entrepreneur trainings in my zonal intervention programmes and the facilitation of productive equipment for some of my constituents to be productively and profitably engaged. I am less interested in putting up structures which fall under the executive purview. I prefer to develop human beings to make human impacts” the Senator stated.

Senator Adeola who won re-election in the last National Assembly Election stated that since he won his election this year over 4000 constituents, mostly youth and women across the 10 LGAs of his largest senatorial district in Nigeria, have benefitted from various skills acquisition and entrepreneur trainings that he facilitated with Small and Medium Enterprises Development Agency of Nigeria, SMEDAN.

The senator while felicitating with the Nigeria Labour Movement urged all tiers of government to find ways and means of immediate implementation of the New Minimum Wage adding that workers in public and private sectors as well as informal sector should redouble their productivity in the interest of economic growth and national development.
