A teenager, one Moruf Wasiu, arrested and convicted for stealing in Lagos, has confessed that he had been stealing for a long time and had dreams to be a big time armed robber.

P.M.EXPRESS reports that Wasiu made the confession at the Ejigbo Magistrates Court where he was arraigned for stealing and he pleaded guilty.

The Ogun State-born robber revealed that he started stealing after his mother died and his father, who lives at Ijegun area, was unable to stop him from stealing before he went deeper into it.
He denied using gun to steal but claimed to have the ability to enter into victims apartments and steal any valuables he finds there.

Wasiu said that throughout the years he was stealing, he never knew he would be caught and was dreaming to be a big time armed robber before his eventual arrest. He said he has now realised the risk involved and may not continue with the criminal life. He said he may likely go back to the work he learnt as a panel beater after serving his prison term.

Wasiu was arrested by police operatives after they went to 18, Church Street in Ijegun and burgled a shop belonging to one Joseph Ejikeme in the early hours of the morning and carted away some items with his gang now at large.

Some of the items stolen include Happy Hour drinks, Hollandian yogurts, evaporated milk and other items.

However, while they were trying to escape, the local vigilante accosted them and arrested Wasiu while others escaped.
The items were recovered as exhibits and were handed over to police at Isheri Oshun Division who later charged him before the Ejigbo Magistrates Court.
He pleaded guilty. He told the Court that he was a robber and had been stealing but never knew the risks involved but was ready to change.
The prosecutor, Supol Kenneth Asibor, presented the facts before the Court and asked the Court to sentence him accordingly to serve as deterrent to any person who might try such in future.
The Presiding Magistrate, Mr. T.O Shomade, found him guilty as charged and sentenced to six months imprisonment with option of fine of N20,000 but he had nobody to pay the fine.
He was moved to prison custody pending when he will pay the fine or complete his terms before he would be released.
