The Lagos State Commissioner of Police, CP Zubairu Muazu, has unveiled a new strategy to combat crime and other vices within the communities in the State.

P.M.EXPRESS reports that the strategy was unveiled during the stakeholders meeting held at Area M Command, Idimu, Lagos.

CP Muazu told the stakeholders that the era of policing the community, where the security of an area was placed in the care of residents working in partnership with security agents has come. He explained that every area will have their own police officers attached to them, who will work with people to ensure the maintenance of peace in such area.

“The junior officers are now empowered to work with the people and decide any action to be taken in an area” he said.

Muazu appealed to police officers to shun corruption, which he described as action that has given the Police bad image in the past. He reiterated that bail is free and urged the stakeholders to reports any officer who demanded money for bail because it has since been directed by the Police high authorities that officers should not collect money for bail. He gave the phone number 09090003792 to the stakeholders to call the Command if there was any complaint against any officer including any officer who demanded money for bail.

Some of the stakeholders who attended the event applauded the new development and commended the Police boss for their efforts to reposition the Force.
One of the stakeholders, Chief Chika C. Nwokedi, President of Igbo social cultural group known as Igbo Buru Otu, noted that the action of the Police was in line with the best practices. He however, urged the need for effective implementation to make it work. Nwokedi noted that sometimes when the numbers of police officers were called they will not be available thereby frustrating the communication between the people and the Police.
Other stakeholders urged the CP to come to the aid of Area M Command comprising six divisions, which had no operational vehicles and wondered how the Police will effectively combat crime and implement the new policy in the area.
Before the CP unveiled the policy, the Area Commander, Area M, Assistant Commissioner of Police, ACP Ifeanyi, had commended the efforts of the stakeholders in the Command and called for the need for all hands to be on deck to protect lives and property in the Command.

The event was also attended by other security agents, who commended the efforts of the Police to restore the integrity and image of the Police Force in Nigeria.
