Police Foil Bank Robbery, Recover Money & Gun

Police operatives from the Ejigbo Division of the Lagos State Police Command led by the Divisional Police Officer, CSP Olabisi Okuwobi, successfully foiled a bank robbery operation after three armed robbers had stormed Access Bank to rob customers; the Police repelled their attack and one of the suspects was arrested.

P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident happened at the Access Bank branch located at Ejigbo/Egbe Road by NNPC junction.

Apart from foiling the robbery operation, the Police also recovered a gun and live bullet including N250,000 cash, which the robbers had already taken from a customer and it has been returned to the victim.

According to an eye witness, three armed bandits went to the Access Bank located in aforementioned area to rob with their motorcycle and guns. Information got to the DPO, CSP Olabisi, who mobilised and led a team of Anti Robbery Squad to the scene.
When the robbers sighted the Police, they opened fire on them and jumped on their waiting motorcycle to escape. But the brave and courageous officers pursued them and there was exchange of gun fire.

On getting to Egbe area, the bandits having sensed that the Police were determined to arrest them, abandoned their motorcycle and jumped a fence. Two of the robbers escaped but one was unable to and was apprehended with gunshot, which he sustained during the exchange of bullets. He was taken to the hospital, treated and then detained at the Police Station for further investigation.

When P.M.EXPRESS correspondent visited the Ejigbo Police Division to meet with the DPO, she was not in the office as she was said to be on routine patrol of the areas within the Division.

However, a source at the station confirmed the arrest and recovery of the exhibits including the arms, motorcycle and money, which the source said have been handed over to the owner on bond.
The source also said that the suspect may likely be transferred to FSARS at Ikeja for further investigation in order to arrest the suspects that escaped and now at large.

The incident attracted positive reactions from Ejigbo residents, who commended the Police for displaying such courage and bravery despite the fact that the bandits were armed.
