Lagos State Govt Fixes Gberigbe Road In Ikorodu
The people of Gberigbe and adjoining communities heaved a sigh of relief as the Lagos State Government reconnected the cut-off point and repaired the bad portion of the road leading to the community as well as opening up same to traffic.
Commenting on the state of the road, Special Adviser, Works and Infrastructure, Engr. Aramide Adeyoye, said the intervention was undertaken to alleviate the suffering of the people occasioned by the total collapse of a portion of the road.
Adeyoye noted that the repairs will reduce travel time and cost of vehicle repairs, boost the economy of the area which has suffered decline while the road was bad and, above all, reduce the stress-induced health challenges on the residents within the axis.
Residents and motorists plying Ijede to Gberigbe, Agura, Igbokuta, Imota and environs have expressed joy that the bad portion of the road which had rendered it impassable for long has been repaired.
Commending the State Government for the intervention, a commercial bus driver, Akeem Bolanle, said that the road had been abandoned by both private and commercial vehicles due to its state. This, he said, made motorists ply a longer route through Imota and charge the people higher transport fares.
“People who commute through Ijede Road to Gberigbe, Agura and Igbokuta had to go through Itamaga to Imota before they could access their homes at Agura and Gberigbe” he stated.
Also speaking, a teacher, who preferred anonymity, said Staff and Students of Igbokuta Model College had suffered untold hardship on the road before it was rehabilitated by this government.
He expressed gratitude to the State government for alleviating the suffering of the people and requested that the entire stretch of the road be reconstructed to accommodate the increasing vehicular traffic occasioned by development in the area.
