Man Docked For Peddling Indian Hemp In NDLEA Office

The Indian hemps peddler, who resides at 7, Moshalashi Street, Empire, Surelere, Lagos, was arraigned before Justice Sule Hassan led-court, NDLEA prosecutor, Mr. Fingere Dinneys, told the court that the defendant was arrested on March 26, 2019, with 630 grammes of the banned weed, which he was distributing to some site workers in their compound.

Dinneys told the court that the offence committed by the defendant is contrary to section 20(1)(a) of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency Act. Cap N30, Laws of the Federation, 2004 and punishable under section 20(2)(a) of the same Act.

The peddler pleaded guilty to the charge when it was read to him.

Following his guilty plea, Dinneys asked the court for a date to review the fact of the matter, while also urged the court to remand him in prison custody, pending when the fact of the matter will be reviewed.

Lawyer to C. W. Ezeonyeziaku, who stood in for Mrs. Susan Agu,  did not opposed the submission of the prosecution.

Following the agreement of prosecutor and defendant’s counsel, Justice Hassan while ordered that the defendant be remanded in prison custody, adjourned the matter till October 11, for review of the fact of the matter and for sentence of the defendant.

The charge against the defendant marked FHC/L/198c/19, reads: “that you Ayobiojo  Hammed, Male, Adult, 7, Moshalashi Street, Empire Surulere, Lagos on or about 26th March, 2019, at 4, Shaw Road, lkoyi Lagos without lawful authority distributed 630 Grammes of Cannabis Sativa otherwise known as Marijuana, a narcotic drug similar to Cocaine, LSD and Heroin and thereby committed an offence contrary to Section 20(1)(a) and punishable under Section 20(2)(a) of the Nationai Drug Law Enforcement Agency Act Cap N30, Laws of the Federation, 2004”.
