Imo Community Leader, Chief Meziem Escapes Assassination

The people of Ogbuke, Ogbujioma-Ogbaku Autonomous community in Mbaitoli Local Government Area of Imo State, were thrown into panic and fear of the unknown, following Wednesday morning’s assassination attempt on one of the prominent community leaders in the area, Chief Emma Meziem, by a yet-to-be identified gunmen.
Reports indicate that the gunmen, who operate on motorcycles, besieged Chief Meziem’s compound at about 1:30am penultimate Wednesday morning, shooting sporadically at the gate in order to gain access to the compound but they could not have a lee way, as Chief Meziem and his wife, who were saying their midnight prayer, ran for cover, and raised alarm which alerted people of the community and men of the vigilante group.
On arrival at the scene of the incident by the youths and community security personnel, the daredevil assassins had fled to an unknown destination.
When asked if the attack was politically motivated, Chief Meziem said that his life has been under threat by some undisclosed persons in the area.
As at the time of filing this report, Chief Meziem had earlier reported the ugly incident to the Police in the area.
