The congregation of Dominion Church, Ijegun area of Lagos,
were busy inside the Church with eyes closed while praying to God for favour
but it was not so for a 22-year old Temitope Adeleye, who went to the Church
praying for favour to steal.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the suspect, Adeleye, told the Police that he went to the Church and was also busy praying before he stole the phone of a woman sitting beside him and tried to escape before he was eventually caught.
The suspect was
apprehended after he allegedly stole a Samsung phone worth N116,000 belonging
to a woman, one Enobong Nkanang, and tried to escape from the Church
midway during the prayer session.
However, the Church
security guard was said to have monitored his movement, apprehended him and
recovered the phone. He was subsequently handed over to the Police at Isheri
Oshun Division for further interrogation.
During interrogation, he was said to have admitted and told the Police that his
mission of going to the Church was to steal valuables such as mobile phones and
hand bags but was unfortunate that he was caught in the act.
The Police found him culpable and later charged him before the Ejigbo
Magistrates Court for stealing and he pleaded not guilty.
The prosecutor,
Mr. Kenneth Asibor, then asked the Court to give a date for hearing since he pleaded
not guilty to enable the Police to prove that he actually committed the
offence.
Thus, the Presiding Magistrate, Mr. T.O. Shomade, granted him bail in the sum
of N116,000 with two sureties in like sum.
He was remanded in prison custody pending when he will perfect his bail
conditions. The matter was adjourned till 16th March, 2020.
