Edo 2020 Basketball: Team Lagos Coach, Alimi Targets Gold Medal

SUNDAY AKINTOYE
Head Coach of Lagos State Women Basketball Team, Lai Alimi said his team has what it takes to fight for gold in the forthcoming National Sports Festival scheduled for Edo State next month.
Alimi said his team are no longer interested in silver, saying that his target now is to win gold medal for Lagos.
“ We won silver in the last edition and we lost to Rivers State in the final so this time around, we are going to Edo to pick gold medal because I have a formidable team who can do the job,” said Alimi who commended his players for their doggedness and commitment to clinch qualification ticket during the elimination finals in Lagos.
Asked if some players would be dropped before he releases his final list, Alimi said he is not likely to change the players, noted that all his players have been played together which gave Team Lagos ticket in the last Zonal elimination.
“ I am not going to change players because all my players are playing in big clubs such as Dolphin, MFM, First Bank and Police Team Basketball teams of Lagos. I have players whose experience are enough to give Team Lagos gold in the festival. The only way I can change players is that if such players sustain serious injury in the camp,” he said.
Alimi said he is not afraid of any team including the hosts, adding that he will take all the matches with seriousness. He said there is no room for mistake, boasting that anything short of gold would be a huge disappointment to him and his fans.
“You saw what we played at the last Elimination final, despite the fact that we qualified, I still need more improvement from my players because this year’s Festival will be tough considering the teams that are coming for the event,” he said.
