A 35-year old man, John Joseph, has been arrested in Lagos for allegedly engaging a 15-year old girl in sex and was caught in the act.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident took place at Felix Street, Ijegamo area of Lagos, where they reside.
It was gathered that the suspect, Joseph, allegedly lured the victim, got her confused and then engaged her in sex before the information leaked and they were caught in the act.
The matter was reported to the Police and he was arrested. He was later transferred to the Gender Section of the Police Command in Lagos.
During interrogation, Joseph told the Police that he did not force her into the act saying that they agreed before he embarked on the romp. But the victim claimed that he lured her into the act because she did not consent to it.
However, the Police found him culpable because the victim was still a minor under the law and he was later charged before the Ogba Magistrates Court for the alleged offence. The Court did not take his plea after the prosecutor, Supol Ezekiel Ayorinde, asked the Court to refer the matter to the DPP for advice. The Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. B.O. Osansanmi, ordered him to be remanded in prison custody without an option of bail. The Court also directed the prosecutor to duplicate the file and send to the DPP for advice while he will remain in custody pending the outcome of the DPP’s advice in order to determine if the matter will be transferred to the High Court over jurisdiction. The matter was adjourned till 6th March, 2020.
