A 20-year old motorcycle operator, Mutiu Adeniji, has displayed his boxing
skills in Lagos by knocking off the tooth of a Police Sergeant, Saheed Bello,
after he apprehended him and seized his bike over Lagos traffic laws.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident happened at Raji Rasaki Street. Aboru, Oke-Odo area of Lagos, where Adeniji was plying late in the evening.
The Police sergeant, Bello, attached to Oke-Odo Division
suffered his fate after he attempted to enforce the Lagos State laws on motorcycle
operators in the State.
It was gathered that Adeniji was operating late in the evening beyond the hours
allowed for riders to operate in line with the security measures put in place
to prevent criminals operating in the evening using motorcycles.
While Adeniji was carrying a passenger, Bello apprehended him and moved to take
his motorcycle to the Police Station for onward movement to the Task Force
office in Oshodi.
The rider reportedly grabbed Bello, rained blows on his face, knocked off his
front tooth and escaped.
The Police officer was taken to an undisclosed
hospital for treatment by his colleagues and Adeniji was later arrested. Having
been found culpable, he was subsequently charged before the Ogba Magistrates
Court for the assault on Bello.
When he was arraigned, he pleaded not guilty. The prosecutor, Inspector Victor
Ekadu, then asked the Court to give a date for hearing since he pleaded not
guilty to enable the Police to prove that he actually committed the offence.
Thus, the Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. M.I. Dan-Oni, granted Adeniji bail in the
sum of N100,000 with two sureties in like sum.
He was remanded in prison custody pending when he will perfect his bail
conditions while the matter was adjourned till 6th April, 2020.
