The popular saying that every day is for a thief but one day is for the owner may have played out on the notoriety and sharp practices peculiar to Police officers at Ago Palace Division, Okota area of Lagos following the arrest of a Police Inspector, Taloju Martins, who was forced to vomit N40,000 bribe by the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Hakeem Odumosu, at the State Command.

P.M.EXPRESS reports that Inspector Martins was forced to vomit the money after he was allegedly caught by a secret camera counting the N40, 000 he extorted from a motorist, who allegedly flouted the stay-at-home order of the Federal Government in the state.

He was arrested and handed over to the Provost Marshal for an Orderly Room Trails and appropriate sanction meted out to him to deter other bad eggs in the Division.

Irked by the viral video, where the Police officer was caught counting the money he collected from the motorist, which of course portrayed the image of the Nigeria Police in a bad light,  CP Odumosu has ordered the DCP in charge of SCIID Panti Yaba, Mrs. Yetunde Longe, to do a holistic purge of the Division with immediate effect on the ground that Inspector Martins could not have acted unilaterally.

In a statement signed by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Bala Elkana, which conveyed the stand of CP Odumosu and made available to P.M.EXPRESS, the extorted N40,000 had been recovered and handed over to the owner.

The statement read: “Attention of Lagos State Police Command is drawn to a video on social media in which an Inspector was captured counting N40,000 he extorted from the owner of a vehicle he impounded for violating restriction of movement order. After analyzing the video, the culprit was identified and arrested. He is Inspector Taloju Martin attached to Ago Police Station as Station Officer (SO). The complainant has also been identified. The money extorted has been recovered and handed over to him by the Commissioner of Police. The Commissioner of Police Lagos State, CP Hakeem Odumosu, has ordered the Deputy Commissioner  of Police in Charge of Criminal Investigation to carry out an in depth investigation into the activities of Ago Police Station as a whole. Meanwhile, the Inspector arrested has been handed over for Orderly Room Trials. Commissioner of Police has reaffirmed his stance against corrupt practices and impunity.
