After Nigeria’s President, Muhammadu Buhari, announced the plan to relax the lockdown over Covid-19 pandemic, some citizens were not in agreement with the decision of the Federal Government and that of Lagos State due to the increase in the numbers of locally contacted Covid-19 virus patients.

According to a Maritime Editor and analyst, Comrade Innocent Orok, it has become clear that the Federal Government is showing lack of care and insensitivity to Nigerians in protecting them against the Coronavirus pandemic, especially in Lagos State.
The Federal Government had pronounced total lockdown of Lagos, Ogun and FCT in the last one month plus. But sadly, there is no provision of palliatives, especially for Lagosians, even in the purported dubious N5,000  gift, Lagos was excluded. Yet Lagos State is the most affected and vulnerable state with rising number of positive cases of the Covid-19 on a daily basis.

Comrade Orok lamented that just in less than 24 hours after recording one of its lowest numbers of cases in recent times, Nigeria has recorded its highest daily tally as the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) confirmed 195 new cases of Covid-19 in the country, as at yesterday 28th April, 2020.

According to him, this represents a 305% increase in just one day and should be a cause for worry, not just for the NCDC and Government, but for Nigerians as a whole even as government recently announced plans to relax the lockdown in Lagos, Ogun, FCT from Monday, 4th May, 2020.

He further analyzed that as at yesterday, Lagos State had 80 cases out of the total of 195 Covid-29 positive cases recorded; doubling the 34 cases recorded the previous day. Lagos State alone now has 844 cases and the number is still rising geometrically.

Despite the alarming increasing numbers, because the government cannot and do not know how to take care of its citizens in a time like this, we are likely to have an explosion of positive cases in our hands as the Federal Government relaxes the lockdown in Lagos State.

Comrade Orok advises Nigerians to please protect themselves and their families by keeping all the precautions to stay safe.
