Facts are gradually coming out on what may have led the 86-year old former Director General of Imo Broadcasting Corporation, IBC, Theophilus Okere, to have killed his 77-year old wife, Beatrice, after over 50 years of marriage in Imo State.

P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident happened on Sunday evening in Imerienwe Community, in Ngor Okpala Local Government Area of Imo State where they reside.
He has been arrested over the death of his wife, Beatrice, by the  Police operatives from the Imo State Police Command and he was said to have not known that he had killed his wife. The cause of the quarrel between the octogenarian and his wife has not been established, but his village people said that he had an advanced dementia and his vehicle was stolen in his house on Sunday morning when he went to Church before the incident happened.
Mr. Okere was alleged to have stabbed his wife, Beatrice, to death on Sunday night and fled with the aid of a yet-to-be-identified indigene of the same community. However, he was later arrested and undergoing interrogation over the alleged murder.
The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, SP Orlando Ikeokwu, confirmed the incident and said Okere was nabbed after he initially fled.He said, “The cause of the quarrel between the octogenarian and his wife has not been established, but the Policemen have visited the scene of the incident while investigations have commenced and the Police are searching for the remains the victim”.
The late Beatrice was a retireee and might have suffered her fate due to the falling health condition of her husband.According to the sources in their village, he had advanced dementia and the subsequent incident of stealing his vehicle worsened his condition which may have triggered him to commit the crime.
“We took him to the hospital; they said we should come after the pandemic. So we couldn’t take him to the hospital because of this Coronavirus. You know how hospitals react to cases like this” the source explained.
