The Commissioner for Human Resources and Capacity Building in the State of Osun, Alhaja Latifat Giwa, has said that Governor Adegboyega Oyetola, as part of his development agenda for the State of Osun, is committed to ensuring that poverty is reduced to its barest minimum in the state.

Giwa, speaking at the flag-off of the Micro Enterprises Empowerment Scheme, organized by the National Directorate of Employment in collaboration with the All Progressive Congress Women’s Wing Organisation, Osun State Chapter, said that Governor Oyetola’s commitment to poverty reduction has been evident in his several deliberate interventions in matters that concern the welfare of the people, especially empowerment schemes for different groups in the state.

In her words: “Governor Oyetola is working hard to improve the living condition of the people, and this has been evident in the payment of full salaries since the inception of his administration, the revitalization of moribund Health Centres across the state, and empowerment of different groups across the State.

“From available reports and statistics, it is true that there is poverty in the land. But there are also data to prove that Governor Oyetola’s administration is heavily invested in ensuring that the citizens of the State of Osun are well.

“As prudent as he is with spending, he has never pushed aside the opportunity to empower people because he believes that when people take responsibility for their own welfare, with support from the government, there will be progress and economic stability.

“I therefore call on beneficiaries of these schemes to take advantage of every empowerment opportunity that is presented to you either directly from the government or from its partners, for the improvement of your living condition.

“These are some of the opportunities that a leader, in the mold of Governor Oyetola, affords citizens and it would be in the best interest of citizens to utilize the opportunity well”, Giwa explained.

Also speaking at the event, the leader of the Women’s Wing of the state’s All Progressive Congress, Alhaja Kudirat Fakokunde, describing the scope of the empowerment Programme said that 300 women will be given a grant of Ten Thousand Naira (N 10,000) for their small scale business, while 800 women across the State will benefit from  cosmetology training.
