The Nigeria Police got what they did not bargain for when they invited former Nigerian president, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo to an event, Capacity Building for Police Officers in Lagos.

Not only did he left the venue of the event at the Federal Palace Hotel on Lagos Island Friday in just five minutes, he warned the police that next time they organize any event and invite him, they must be prepared and behave responsibly.

The event was organized to train officers of Zone 2 Police Command for them to meet up with the challenges for better performance.

Surprisingly, the chief host, Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris came to the event scheduled for 10.30 am two hours behind time when Obasanjo had already made his speech and left the venue.

However, before leaving to other events organized  by the United Nations on his behalf in Abeokuta, Ogun State, Obasanjo in his brief speech emphasized the need for continuous training of the police for them to response to the challenge of digital society just like other countries in the world.

“Any human institution needs constant appraisal and training. I hope the training  will continue and will enhance the performance of the officers, ” he said.

After the speech, he went outside and took photographs with the officers present and entered his SUV and left with the Ogun State Commissioner of Police.

His statements became an issue among the officers who came for the training and the press for over 30 minutes before IGP arrived and declared the event open.

IGP Idris emphasized the important of the training and commended Zone 2 Commander, AIG Kayode Aderanti for organizing such events for the officers.

He promised the event will continue and will cut across all officers in the federation to enhance their performance in the society.
