Ahead Nigeria vs Lesotho, Eagles Coach, Rohr Visits Lagos, Inspects Teslim Balogun Stadium

Super Eagles’ Head Coach, Gernot Rohr is leaving nothing to chance to ensure that his team are ready for the African Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifying match against Lesotho next month and to this end he was at the Teslim Balogun Stadium, Surulere, Friday, for an on the spot assessment of the suitability of the stadium for the crucial encounter.

In what could be described as the return of the Super Eagles to Lagos after a long absence, the Teslim Balogun Stadium,Surulere, will host the visiting team (Lesotho) against the home country (Nigeria).

The Eagles manager was accompanied on the inspection by the First vice President, Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Barr. Seyi Akinwunmi, Chairman, Lagos State Sports Commission (LSSC), Sola Aiyepeku and the Director, Oluwatoyin Gafaar.

Akinwunmi said during the inspection that Lagos, as the Centre of Excellence, is ready to host the Eagles and Lesotho team.

He said: “The Lagos State Government had been working on the stadium long before now.. Anybody who was here nine months ago would see the level of work done on the pitch. The dressing rooms are top class and other facilities and these are more than enough to host international matches at the Teslim Balogun Stadium.

He said “Before we knew that we are going to plan and host any match, they have started working on the facility”.

reiterated that the pitch will be ready before the match next month, adding that the grass is green and there are just finishing touches to be put in place before the field is match-ready.

He said the Super Eagles Coach was at the stadium to assess the level of the facilities. He expressed his happiness that the German coach was satisfied with what he saw at the Teslim Balogun Stadium.

Aiyepeku assured Eagles Coach that the Teslim Balogun Stadium is a viable option for Nigeria’s home match against Lesotho.

“We have re-grown the grass in the last 15 months and a lot of work is in progress to ensure that the pitch is match-ready,” for the Eagles game against Lesotho next month,” he said.
