Archery: Nigeria Police Win National Open In Abuja

The Nigeria Police Archery team has emerged the overall winners of the maiden Nigerian Archery Federation National Men and Women Open championship held at the package “B” of the Moshood Abiola National Stadium Abuja at the weekend.

The Police won with 7 gold, 4 silver and 1 bronze medal, while the Lekki Archery Club, Lagos, came second by winning 1 gold medal, The third position went to the Nigeria Army with 3 silver and 2 bronze medals. 

Other winners include, Abuja Arch club that had 1silver and 3 bronze medals, Nigeria Immigration Services, 1 silver and 1 bronze, the Nigeria Correctional Service won 1 bronze medal, Plateau State 1 bronze and the Nigeria Airforce.

A total of ten teams  took part in the week-long exercise that was packaged by the Nigeria Archery Federation and was graced by the president of the Nigeria Olympic Committee, Engr. Habu Gumel , the 3rd vice president of the NOC and president of the Nigeria Table Tennis Federation, Engr. Ishaku Tikon and Azania Omo-Agege’s, an Executive Board member of the Nigeria Boxing Federation and Special Assistant to the Deputy Senate President on Sports. 

Excited on the turn out of the participants, President of Archery, Mohammed Abdullahi who is also the Deputy Secretary General of the NOC, commended the participants and thanked all those who contributed in one way or the other in making the Championship a huge success even as he hinted that another championship is being finalised.

President of the Nigeria Olympic Committee in his keynote address as the special guest, charged Nigerian Archers to take the game of Archery serious as Nigeria is capable of producing world beaters in the sport.
