Guard, 33, Arrested For Stealing Mobile Phone Recovered From Thief

A 33-year old security guard, Lawal Taye, has landed in trouble in Lagos after his lover requested for a mobile phone from him and and when he apprehended a thief, who allegedly stole mobile phones at night in the neighbourhood where he worked, he took one of the phones and gave to his lover.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident happened at Itire Junction along Oshodi/Mile 2 Expressway, where Taye was employed as a security guard.
The suspected thief, Ahmed Raymon, had gone to a house located at No. 6 Balogun Street, Ilasamaja area of Lagos around 2am and stole five mobile phones but when he got to the expressway road while escaping, the security guard, Taye, apprehended him and recovered the mobile phones. In the process, Taye stole one of the phones before handing both the thief and the remaining phones to the Police at Ilasa Division as exhibits.
At the Police Station, the thief, Raymon, made confessional statement and told the Police that the security guard, Lawal Taye, who caught him, did not tender XS Max Android phone worth N350,000 which he had recovered from him with the other phones.
The Police then tracked the phone belonging to one Idris Balogun and recovered it from a lady who informed the Police that it was her boyfriend, Lawal Taye, who gave him the phone.
The Police then arrested Taye and subsequently charged him before the Isolo Magistrates Court for stealing.
He pleaded not guilty before the Court.
The prosecutor, Mr. Oje Uagbale, asked the Court to give a short date for hearing to enable the Police to prove that Taye actually committed the alleged offence.
The Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. O. A. Akokhia, granted him bail in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties in like sum.
The matter was adjourned till 9th April, 2021, for mention while the defendant was remanded in Correctional Centre pending when he will perfect his bail conditions.
The thief, Ahmed Raymon, had been jailed for 36 months for stealing and he was remanded in the Correctional Centre, from where he will be coming to Court to give evidence against Taye for the alleged stealing of the phone recovered from him.
