Ex international Jonathan Akpoborie made a surprise appearance at the grand finale of the National Wheelchair Tennis Tournament Wednesday afternoon at the National Stadium Surulere.

Jonathan whose illustrious playing career took him through the entire gamut of the national teams from all conquering U 16 Golden Eaglets team of 1985, to the Flying Eagles squad of 1987 and the Super Eagles team of 2000 was the toast of the tennis occasion as he was one of those on the high table.

Akpoborie, however it must be noted has adopted tennis as his new love after retiring from his round leather game that bestowed on him fame and fortune.

He plays tennis regularly at the National Stadium for recreational purposes. When asked by PM EXPRESS when he would return to football action, he smiled and said never again as a player.

For tennis, now his first love Jonathan who played for Julius Berger of Lagos before moving to Germany to start a professional career, said he was playing tennis to keep fit. And he really looks fit with a bounce that belies his over five decades on earth.
