Following the killing of a motorcyclist popularly known as Okada in Lagos State, Southwest, Nigeria, Prince Amb. Dr. Adedipe Ewenla has reacted to the ugly incident saying that the Police should be more civil in their operations.

Prince Ewenla, who is the CEO of Adedas & Company Global Services, described the murder of the armless motorcyclist as unfortunate.

“Why should a Police Officer, whose duty is to protect life and properties, take the life of an unarmed Okada rider without provocation. It was said that the Okada rider refused to surrender himself for search. If that is the case, he should have allowed him to go rather than killing him. It is too bad and things like this led to the EndSARS.”

“The Police should learn from their past mistakes and make amends. We are in a civil society where the rule of law should be obeyed by everyone. The IG of Police should look into the activities of Lagos State Task Force” he said.

Also reacting to the incident the Araba of Ojokoro Kingdom, High Chief Fawemimo, said the Police should treat members of the public with caution adding that killing innocent citizen is not the solution to any dispute as the Police are being paid to protect lives and properties and also urged the Police authority to fish out the killer Police Officer and prosecute him to serve as a lesson to others.

On his part Sunday Adegun said the Police authority has a lot to do by educating their officers and men who carry arms on when and how to use the fire arm instead of killing innocent citizens, who they are to protect.

It would be recalled that an Okada rider was shot dead by a trigger happy Policeman at Ile Epo in the early hours of 24th May, 2021, which resulted to a protest by the angry Okada riders and many vehicles windscreen were smashed as Police from the other Divisions and Lagos State Task Force were deployed to restore normalcy as shanties at the dump site were set ablaze.
