Lagos CP Charges DPOs On Traffic Robbers As RRS Arrests Car Snatcher At Ojota

The Commissioner of Police, Lagos State, CP Hakeem Odumosu, on Friday 4th June, 2021, charged the Divisional Police Officers and traffic surveillance officers of the major areas that are prone to robbery in traffic on effective strategies to address and tackle incidences of traffic robbery in their areas of responsibility in the state, at a meeting held at the Command’s conference room, State Headquarters, Ikeja-Lagos.

According to the Lagos Command’s PPRO, CSP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the meeting came at the heels of the proactive nature and foresight of the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State, to give maximum attention to the areas and routes where road constructions are being embarked upon by the Lagos State Government which may likely cause artificial traffic congestion. 

The Commissioner of Police rolled out and deliberated on the mapped out strategies to tackle the menace of traffic robbery at certain areas to include Ketu/Mile 12, Marina/Eko Bridge, Apongbon, Mile 2 and Lekki/Ajah areas.

The Police boss directed the affected Area Commanders, Divisional Police Officers and traffic surveillance officers to sectorise the areas for easy patrol and surveillance and constantly supervise the men on their beats to be more alive and effectively discharge their duties as expected.

The meeting had in attendance the Deputy Commissioner of Police, Operations, DCP Ahmed Kontangora, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Department of Finance and Administration, DCP Bassey Ewah, Assistant Commissioner of Police,  Department of Finance and Administration, ACP Jide Agboola, Area Commnaders, Area C, Surulere, Fatai Tijani and representative of Area Commander Area A, Lion Building, ACP Bode Ojajuni and Officer in charge, Motor Traffic Division, Lagos State, CSP Oriyomi Oluwasanmi. 

CP Hakeem Odumosu warned that on no account should any traffic robbery be recorded in their respective areas and in any part of the state as such will be tantamount to dereliction of duty which will attract severe disciplinary sanction. He however ordered that more traffic personnel and police operatives be posted to the identified places to beef up security and prevent traffic robbery across the state. 

In another development, the Operatives of the Lagos State Rapid Response Squad (RRS) recovered a stolen Prado SUV Jeep from a notorious criminal Chinebere Innocent, m, 47, who specializes in snatching vehicles, when he was driving the stolen Toyota Prado SUV to Abia State before he was caught at Ojota area of Lagos State on 3rd June, 2021.

The suspect, who hails from Abia State, after his arrest, confessed to have  stolen the Prado SUV with registration No ‘MUS 136 ET’ from a security man when he was re-parking other vehicles inside the compound.

According to the suspect “As I was returning from my sister’s place who declined me entry into her apartment at Gbagada, suddenly I saw this Toyota Prado SUV neatly parked on the road with the engine running,  I quickly entered and  drove it towards Lagos-Ibadan expressway before I was caught at Ojota towards old toll gate”.

Investigation revealed that the vehicle belongs to one Olumide Oluwayomi, m, an Estate Surveyor, residing at Towobola area of Gbagada, Lagos State.
