The dead may no longer be resting in peace following the onslaught by the living to use their corpses for money rituals as was the case of a 65-year old woman, whose corpse was exhumed from the grave and stolen in Delta State.

P.M.EXPRESS reports that Police operatives from the Delta State Command arrested a 60-year old native doctor, Godfrey Akpudje, who went at night, stole the corpse of the deceased and escaped.

In the morning, the family of the deceased discovered that the grave had been tampered as the corpse was no longer there and the matter was reported to the Police for discrete investigation.

This was disclosed by the Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Edefa Bright.

He said on the 24th June, 2021, at about 1700hrs, one Ejiro Okoro, ‘m’ 35 years, reported that his sister (name withheld) aged, 65, who died sometime in 2019 and was buried at Ekpan Ovu, that the corpse was exhumed by unknown persons.

“On the strength of this report, the DPO Isiokolo Division swung into action and detailed Police detectives to investigate. During the course of investigation, information gathered through intelligence revealed that it was one native doctor, Godfrey Akpudje ‘m’ 60, that exhumed the corpse, and removed the skull. He was immediately arrested and two human skulls were recovered from him. He said he got one of the human skull from Osun State from a native doctor, who is now late.”

DSP Bright said the investigation is ongoing to uncover why he had to do so and not allow the dead to rest in peace.
He said the Commissioner of Police has ensured that no stone will be left unturned to prevent crimes in the State making sure the Officers and men have continued to key into the CP’s policing strategies.

The CP has continuously pressed it on DPOs, Tactical Commanders, and officers and men of the Command to be on their toes. He also mandated DPOs to step up patrol in their areas of responsibilities, gather intelligence and make the presence of the Police felt in the State.
