Fourteen communities in Aguata Local Government area of Anambra State have expressed their disappointment on the administration of Governor Willy Obiano over the neglect of their area and they have concluded to work for their collective destiny in future, P.M.EXPRESS gathered.

This was the summation of their summit called ‘Aguata Land: Agenda For Sustainable Development’ held in Festac, Lagos recently.

The summit was organised by Aguata progressive Union, APU, Lagos branch.

The summit, which attracted the Chairmen of various Town Unions of Aguata, captains of Industry, traditional rulers, women leaders and politicians, was held to champion the welfare of the people of that local government.

Among the issues raised were the ravaging erosion in almost all the towns in the local government area, bad roads, poor electricity and water, all which they alleged Governor Obiano had failed to address despite repeated appeals to him.

The president of APU, Chief Edwin Odurukwe in his opening address, said the summit was summoned for the stakeholders to discuss, articulate, and champion a new blue print on how to better their predicament.

He said over the years, the local government had been underdeveloped due to neglect while the government seems not to care despite the huge population of the local government.

In his keynote address, Professor I.P. Orajaka said there can never be a sustainable development without attaining political power.

He urged the people of Aguata to seek political power so that the needed development can come to the area.

Other guest speakers at the event were Mr Val Ozigbo, Godwin Ezeemo, Bath Nwibe and P.O. Osunkwo.

They all agreed that there is need to seek political power, unity of purpose, adoption of right culture and values, and working together despite different political affiliation toward achieving their set goals.

Some of those who attended to event commended the organisers who articulated their ideal, while some said it was a sort of political gathering over the coming Anambra governorship election.
