Police Detectives from State Criminal Investigation, SCID, Panti Yaba, have arrested a 27-year old man, Ikechukwu Michael, who allegedly stabbed his lover, Miss Chinyere Orji, to death during a squabble in Lagos.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident happened at Abuja Lane, Alaba Rago, Okokomaiko in Ojo area of Lagos State, where they reside.
The suspect, who hails from Ohafia in Abia State, was said to be angry when he returned home at about 11pm and the deceased, who had waited for him decided to leave the house, which lead to a disagreement. In the process, the suspect, Michael took a mirror inside the house and stabbed her on the ribs.
She was said to have bled profusely and slumped before the neighbours could rush her to the hospital as she was already dead and doctors merely certified her dead.
The matter was reported to the Police at Ojo Division and he was arrested. He was later transferred to the SCID, Panti, Yaba, for further investigation.
After investigation, the Police found him culpable and subsequently charged him before the Ebute Metta Magistrates Court for the alleged offence.
The Court did not take his plea after the prosecutor, Inspector Donny Raphael, asked the Court to refer the matter to the DPP for advice.
The Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. O. G. Oghre, ordered his remand in Correctional Centre at Kirikiri town in Lagos State pending the outcome of the DPP’s advice.
The matter was adjourned till 9th August, 2021.
The matter may likely be transferred to the High Court if the DPP’s report finds him culpable and recommends his trial for the alleged offence over jurisdiction.
