How Driver Crushed Man While Being Pursued By LASTMA Officials

A 35-year old truck driver, Wasiu Adeoye, has crushed a man  Adeniyi Sunday, as he was allegedly being pursued by the LASTMA officials over an undisclosed offence in Lagos State.

P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident happened at Okota area of Lagos.

The alleged offence said to have been committed which prompted the LASTMA officials to pursue him was not disclosed by the Police.

However, according to Police sources, the man while driving the truck with registration number APP 214 XD was stopped by the LASTMA officials. He tried to escape before the officials pursued him and in the process he crushed the victim. He was taken to hospital and the doctors merely certified him dead. The corpse was deposited at an undisclosed hospital for autopsy report.

Having realized that the driver has killed the victim, the LASTMA officials ran away, the driver was held and handed over to the Police at SCID, Panti, Yaba, for murder.

After interrogation, the Police found him culpable and subsequently charged him before the Ebute Metta  Magistrates Court for the alleged offence.

The Court did not take his plea after the Prosecutor, O. Kehinde, asked the Court to refer the matter to the DPP for advice.

The Presiding Chief Magistrate, Mrs. A.A. Oshoniyi, ordered his remand in correctional centre at Kirikiri town, Lagos, pending the outcome of DPP’s report.

The Court directed the prosecutor to duplicate the file and send to the DPP while the matter was adjourned till 6th October, 2021, for the report of the DPP to be available.
